The area of CARE MINISTRIES is one of the avenues of Adult Ministries at KLC. Many people are involved. We give thanks for their compassionate participation.
The Prayer Chain consists of people that are willing to pray. This includes prayers for the people in our congregation, their relatives and friends, also for people and concerns in and for our community, as well as our country and world. There are weekly prayer request made at the church service that are then sent out from the Office. Prayer requests also come into the office via phone calls, emails and people at the door or from someone just stopping by the office and telling us about their daily lives and what we can pray for them. We also have some prayers that go out through The Chimes and the bulletin announcement page so that our congregation and shut-ins can join us in prayer. If you would like your name added to the prayer chain to get weekly prayer requests please contact the Church Office.
The Kent Lutheran Prayer Shawl Ministry meets once a month to support its knitters (and crocheters) in the ministry of crafting beautiful prayer shawls to be distributed to loved ones who could use encouragement. Prayers of hope and care for its recipient are knitted into each shawl. Call the Church Office for time and location of the next meeting. Previous knitting experience isn’t necessary.
“Welcome to the Lord’s Table….the meal is prepared for you.” What beautiful words of invitation we hear during each worship service. We come to the table, ready to receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we are strengthened and renewed on the journey. For our homebound members and friends who are unable to physically join us in worship, but who would like to receive communion, KLC has a caring and dedicated communion visitation team. Members of this team are sent out to share this same word of life and this bread and cup of blessing with our homebound folks, so that they, too, may share in the same gifts and be strengthened in communion with all the people of God. This joyful ministry has been ongoing for many, many years, and continues to be a mutual blessing.
One of the ways we express care and concern for folks who are grieving is by sending a set of four grief books throughout the year following the loss of a loved one. These short books in the Journeying through Grief series are written by Dr. Kenneth Haugk, a Lutheran pastor and founder of Stephen Ministries. He shares helpful insights about grief, biblical truths, and stories that provide comfort and reassurance. Each book is sent at a crucial time in the grief journey, and offers helpful insights of what that person may be experiencing during that time. These books have been well received, and are a loving and caring way of reminding the person that they are not alone.
